Beginning in 1991, Sayadaw U Silananda established the Summer Dhamma Courses at Dhammananda Vihara to ensure young Myanmar Buddhists learned the fundamentals of Buddhism and preserved their cultural heritage. What started with just four students grew significantly over the decades, peaking at 210 students in 2010 before being capped at 195 in 2025 due to space limitations. To accommodate varying ages and knowledge levels, the program expanded to offer multiple levels ranging from a Primary Class up through Advanced 3. Across its 33-year history, the courses have relied on foundational Buddhist texts to teach prayers, history, and core doctrine. TBSA and Dhammananda Vihara remain dedicated to continuing this tradition to promote and pass down the Buddha's teachings.
